Here at the Defence Academy a wide range of sports and activities are available, and each of the clubs is always looking for new members of all skill levels to join.
The Shrivenham campus has its own fitness centres, outdoor sports pitches, cricket, tennis, badminton and squash courts, running tracks, a golf course, riding stables, and an outdoor heated swimming pool.
Defence Academy Gym – Equipment includes bikes, rowing machines, treadmills, free weights and a variety of weight machines. Before you can use the gym you must carry out an induction with a member of the gym staff, where you will be given an induction card. There are three induction sessions run weekly.
Defence Academy Swimming Pool – The Defence Academy has a heated outdoor swimming pool, open from May until September. Membership to the swimming pool requires a subscription to the Athletics Union, but a pay-as-you-go option is available for more casual swimmers. The fully supervised pool is available for use by staff, students and their families and also offers swimming lessons for adults and children.
DAFFYS (Friends and Family of the Defence Academy) – DAFFYS arrange days through the year for families and friends of those studying on site, to allow them a taste of life on campus.
Golf Club – The Defence Academy Golf Club, established in 1956, is an attractive 18 hole course within the confines of the campus. The 18 different holes are achieved by a devious combination of 14 greens and 18 tees, so making each hole unique.
Saddle Club – The Saddle Club offers equestrian opportunities for all military, students, civilian staff, and their families working in the Defence Academy. A wide range of livery services are available for members with their own horses/ponies.
For children – The Tennis, Saddle and Martial Arts clubs offer classes and lessons for children. There’s also a Kidz Club (8-11 years) and a Youth Group (11-16 years) that both meet weekly.
